Sunset in the Late 1800s

I always was a sucker for Philippine sunsets (or sunrise), that is why my blog image reflects such (obvious ba?). I found this black and white photo of a sunset at Manila Bay dated around late 1800s (or early 1900s at the latest.) So beautiful, so pristine even in black and white photos. God was good to us and gave the Filipinos a spectacular country, it is likely he is dismayed on how we treated such gift. Just look at the Pasig river and it's exit point at Manila Bay today.

So sad ... at times it makes me angry. Do we need to mismanage our water resource just for the sake of money grubbing factories with unregulated pollution controls? Who monitors and penalizes these polluters in the first place? Our esteros are no better, uncaring people made it a garbage dump. Do we not have the will (either political and moral) to properly manage our mess?

Baclaran Fire

I was walking along a street in Pasay and I saw a pall of smoke from the direction of the Baclaran LRT station area, my curiousity drew me to the place (like a moth to a fire, but I was a cautious moth), and what I saw astounded me. A thick pall of smoke emanating from a large warehouse fire which housed tons of clothing, shoes and other flammable items not sold in the last Christmas season of 2007. Glad I had a digital camera with me and this is what I saw.

To think this was shot quite a distance away from the fire. A chopper dropped water to help in quenching the fire. According to news reports it took several days before the embers inside the burning warehouse finally extinguished. It was extremely fortunate that no one was hurt in the fire.

List of questionable people

I decided to put this list in the first day of the year so that it will be archived and constantly updated as time goes by without cluttering the blog. I actually started this March 5, 2008.

So here's the list.

1. Jesli Lapuz - (deed to be confirmed)

Lozada banned in public schools?

March 5, 2008 at 10:00 pm

We are still trying to get a copy of the reported directive of Education Secretary Jesli Lapus banning Rodolfo Noel Lozada, former president of Philippine Forest Corporation and star witness in the NBN/ZTE deal scandal and former Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos, one of the principal personalities involved in the deal from attending fora in public schools. ..
